1. About

 

This article is about everything we know about the LoL community and the behavior of the community. Due to the big amount of unrelated pieces of information we have about the community, this article is not written as an ongoing text. This might be changed in the future.

 

  • The community decides what kind of behavior is ok and what is not okay [23,25, 80]
  • 99% of the games end with “gg”, only about 1% ends with “bg”. 10% contain “nasty words”. [159, 244]
  • Servers with more different languages experience stronger positive impact from player behavior tools [163]
  • Homophobia, racism and sexism in the chat have decreased in the past years. Roughly 3% of the games contain these types of toxicity[196]. Newer sources mention 2% [221] [334]
  • The number of reports has consistently decreased over time [335]
  • Riot believes  that the average player is “inherently good” [239]
  • A community survey showed that players the most important thing when entering a match is:
    • Sportsmanlike teammates (50%)
    • Good team composition (37%)
    • Getting the champ I want (10%)
    • Getting into a game quickly (3%)  [242]
  • Teams without ragers have a 54% winratio. Teams with 3 ragers have a 46% winratio. This gets worse with more ragers. [247]
  • Players with positive behavior win 10% more games. Players with negative behavior win 35% less games.[248]
  • Negative Champselect leads to 15,3% more reports, even if the game is won. [241]
  • 95% of the community never get punished in any way. [256]
  • Players generally do a very poor job at judging when a game is “over” [269]
  • Over 90% of the LoL players are male [270]
  • 85% of the LoL players have been between 16 and 30 years old in 2012 [270]
  • 60% of the LoL players have been enrolled in or have completed some college (2012) [270]
  • Less than 10% of all players show any kind of negative behavior [301]
  • Less then 1% of all players ever get a permaban [298]
